Shaping Legacy is a multi-year commitment to critically examine the monuments and memorials in San Francisco’s Civic Art collection. It is a chance to rectify current power imbalances, engage communities that have historically been excluded from discussions, and create opportunities for artist-led activations in public spaces that reimagine future monuments and memorials in our city.
We were excited to sit down with two badass bitches at the helm of this massive project, Angela Carrier, Senior Program Manager with the San Francisco Arts Commission, and Ellie Tumbuan, co-founder and managing partner of The Justice Collective, a social impact consultancy based in Oakland. We discuss collective healing, the power of being seen, and why San Francisco will always be a beacon for art and activism.
