Season 17, Episode 11 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show Alex Kozora and I start by talking about the likelihood of the Pittsburgh Steelers trading CB Joey Porter Jr. before the season starts on the heels of the Thursday night report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz. We go over the overall plausibility of Porter being traded and the several boxes that would need to be checked before the Steelers even remotely considered dealing him to another team.
Will the Steelers ultimately get a contract extension with Porter done prior to the start of the regular season? What if they don't and what if they also decide not to trade him because of that? Alex and I attempt to go down that discussion path early in this show.
The Steelers will play their second preseason game Friday night against the New York Jets so ahead of that, Alex and I give our full preview of that contest and that includes several players and things we will be watching for this evening. Alex goes over some specific things that fans should be looking for Friday night when it comes to the two young quarterbacks, Will Howard and Drew Allar.
Will the Steelers ultimately keep four quarterbacks on the 53-man roster to start the regular season and is Mason Rudolph guaranteed to be one of at least three kept? How much of what Steelers HC Mike McCarthy said on Wednesday about Rudolph really matters as the final roster decision date creeps closer? Alex and I attempt to answer those questions, and we also look at a few times in recent history that NFL teams have kept four quarterbacks to open a regular season.
Included in that historical four-quarterback lookback, Alex and I go over the last two times the Steelers opened a regular season with four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.
Ahead of Friday night's preseason game, Alex and I use the last part of this episode to compare and contrast our most recent 53-man roster predictions for the Steelers. While we only differ in two players overall, the quarterback group remains a huge part of our differences. We explain our decisions as part of predictions.
This 113-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above and we close this show out by answering a few emails we received from listeners.
