Joseph Harrison has ridden plenty of great horses, but when the chips were down and the most money was on the line, he kept going back to Main Street Boone.

Better known as "Street", 2004 gelding by Pepto Boonsmal out of Playboy’s Ruby was part of the Harrison family for roughly 15 years. Despite the number of horses that came through Harrison’s program during that time, he still considers Street the best and most trustworthy horse he has ever ridden.

On this episode of The Score, Chelsea Shaffer and Harrison look back on Street’s biggest moments, including Harrison’s win at The American with Luke Brown, multiple trips to the NFR and a successful, if somewhat accidental, show career. Street was the kind of horse that anyone could ride and win on, whether that be a pregnant Jackie Crawford or a fellow NFR heeler in need of a good one.

Harrison and his wife, Jodi, estimate Street earned more than $1 million between rodeos, jackpots and horse shows—though there is no complete record from the gelding’s earlier years. More important than the money was Street’s consistency. Jake Long, Travis Graves, Paul Eaves and other elite heelers rode him through the years, and Harrison said they regularly placed Street alongside the best horses they had ever ridden.

Harrison also opens up about Street’s retirement, the care he received in his final years and the difficult decision to let him go when breathing and heat-related issues began affecting his quality of life. Through the wins, the miles and the quiet years at home, Street remained Harrison’s favorite—and the horse he was always glad to have had.
