Nights' resident screen critic Dan Slevin joins Susana Lei’ataua to review:

IN CINEMAS

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (directed by James Cameron, 1991). Back in cinemas for its 35th anniversary - screening in Cameron’s preferred 3D format. Arguably the greatest action film ever made sees Arnold Schwarzenegger return to the Terminator role he played in Cameron’s indie hit from 1984, only this time he has gone back in time to protect John Connor from an even more powerful cyborg (Robert Patrick).

PAID STREAMING - HBO Max

The West Wing (created by Aaron Sorkin, 1999-2006).This show was an acclaimed drama at the time but is now seen by many as an overly romantic ‘competence porn’ portrayal of politicians and their staff. How does it hold up in the era of Trump?

FREE STREAMING - Māori+

Mārama (directed by Taratoa Stoppard, 2025). This glorious bloody vitriolic take on the cancer of colonialism was released in cinemas earlier this, and now it’s available for free on Māori+.
