In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Makena Arteaga are in studio with RJ Abeytia joining remotely to talk about USC's successful trip to the Eastern Time Zone, with a 31-23 victory over Penn State in front of a record Beaver Stadium attendance and spectacular White Out conditions. Head coach Lincoln Riley was under pressure the past two weeks following the loss to Oregon and the heat was turned up even before this game kicked off when first year head coach Bob Chesney and UCLA upset the Ducks in Eugene. Riley was able to get his squad to play an extremely clean game in an extremely rough environment and earn a hard-fought Big Ten road victory.
The crew talks about what they liked coming out of the win against the Nittany Lions and how Riley was able to out coach Matt Campbell. They also discuss how Riley reacted to the victory, including his post game comments, sitting on the bench after the win to take it all in and his final lap around the field in the rain while we were filming Instant Analysis.
The bye week gives the Trojans a chance to get healthy heading into the toughest stretch of the schedule and Riley talked about how important having a fully healthy squad will be with Wisconsin, Ohio State and Indiana coming up. With the break, Ryan, Makena and RJ also take a look at where the 6-1 Trojans stand statistically and if the last two games helped boost some of those putrid early season defensive rankings.
