Alex Ovechkin, hockey icon and Russian patriot, is back in the spotlight for his unapologetic support of his homeland—this time appearing in a video with top Russian officials. Long known for his loyalty, he even launched a “Putin Team” movement in 2017. The Washington Capitals confirmed he filmed the clip during a summer visit to Russia, where he spends his offseason with family and plans to retire there. While proudly calling D.C. his second home, Ovechkin’s roots remain firmly in Russia—and he’s focused on peace, legacy, and continuing to dominate on the ice this season.
