A tragic loss for Boston sports: Alex Gimenez, newly hired as the Bruins’ Director of Hockey Operations and just months into his dream role, passed away unexpectedly. A respected veteran of the Red Sox organization—including their 2018 World Series run—and a hockey analytics expert with the PWHL, Gimenez brought unmatched intelligence and character to the Bruins front office. His colleagues praised him for earning trust quickly, while the Red Sox hailed him as an indispensable part of their success over a decade. Just 2 months after leaving his stable Red Sox job to chase his passion for hockey, he was finally thriving—only to be cut short. Also an adjunct professor at Cornell since 2020, his impact extended beyond the rink, leaving behind a legacy of mentorship and dedication that resonates across sports and academia.
