Dustin Boydell joins Russell Holiday to break down a rough 7–2 blowout loss as the Vancouver Canucks run into the reigning Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes at Lenovo Center. The boys start off by examining a "men versus boys" matchup where Carolina’s relentless forecheck overwhelmed Vancouver from the opening puck drop, fueled by Kamloops native Logan Stankoven torching his home province team for a natural hat trick. They get into Kevin Lankinen’s struggles after getting pulled following six goals on 18 shots, a disastrous special-teams performance that saw the penalty kill concede three goals while surrendering a shorthanded tally, and the ongoing defensive lapses from Brock Boeser and Filip Hronek. As well, they praise the lone bright spot of the night in the top line, breaking down Jake DeBrusk’s two-goal performance, Elias Pettersson’s sublime playmaking, and Jonathan Lekkerimäki protecting the puck with authority on the blue line.
Then Rusty 'n Dusty get into the lineup decisions and evaluate whether throwing Victor Mancini straight onto the penalty kill against an elite power play was setting him up to fail. They discuss Arshdeep Bains and his shrinking leash in the defensive zone, highlight Leevi Meriläinen’s calm 14-save relief outing as a case for him taking over starting duties, and question the wisdom of scratching veterans Luke Schenn and Brendan Gallagher in the same game. Lastly, the boys look ahead to Saturday’s early lunch matinee against the New Jersey Devils and preview the Abbotsford Canucks kicking off a weekend back-to-back against the Colorado Eagles.
If you are sick of Luke Gazdic's poor analysis during the intermission, if you are looking for someone to banter with during the game and if you want to meet a bunch of crazy hockey fans then this stream is the one for you. There will be mayhem in chat so make sure you say hello when you stop by.
Come and watch the game with us.
