Abbotsford Canucks play-by-play broadcaster Brandon Astle joins Russell Holiday and Dustin Boydell to preview the upcoming American Hockey League season and dive into the organizational pipeline connecting Abbotsford to Vancouver. Brandon starts off by celebrating the huge announcement that he will be calling all 72 regular-season games this year—including road matchups via remote broadcast—before breaking down what to expect from the farm club under new head coach Ryan Papaioannou. The crew chats about the high-energy culture established by Manny Malhotra and Ryan Johnson, Guillaume Brisebois cracking Vancouver's opening-night roster after battling back from hip surgery, and why players like Arshdeep Baines, Linus Karlsson, Max Sasson, and Jonathan Lekkerimäki serve as prime examples of AHL development leading directly to NHL roles.
Then the boys dig into the incoming wave of young talent and evaluate which Abbotsford prospects are positioned to make an immediate impact. Brandon highlights Braeden Cootes adjusting to his first full pro season, Bennett Schimek pushing for an NHL deal, Riley Patterson's scoring upside, and the rugged, bottom-six identity brought by Memorial Cup champion Gabriel Chiarot. As well, they discuss captain Chase Wouters earning an NHL two-way contract, the strategic nuances behind handness and line combinations, and new GM Richard Seeley's roster construction ahead of Friday's season opener in Calgary against the Wranglers.
If you are sick of Luke Gazdic's poor analysis during the intermission, if you are looking for someone to banter with during the game and if you want to meet a bunch of crazy hockey fans then this stream is the one for you. There will be mayhem in chat so make sure you say hello when you stop by.
Come and watch the game with us.
