Think of the last compliance issue your company "fixed." Did you fix the condition, or did you fix the moment?

Does your HR person have the actual organizational authority to stop a manager from cutting corners — or just the knowledge that they shouldn't?

If your HR person were out for a month, would your compliance process still hold — or does it only work because they're personally remembering to enforce it?

Here's a question I want you to sit with before we go any further: if your HR person already knows the rule, already fixed it once, already sent the reminder email — why did the same compliance issue show up again six months later?

Most leaders answer that question wrong. They think: our HR person missed it. Or: we need better training. Or — and this is the one that really gets me — we need a compliance checklist that's more thorough.

None of those are wrong, exactly. They're just not the real answer.

The real answer is this: your compliance issues aren't a compliance problem. They're a capacity problem wearing a compliance costume.

Today I'm going to show you why the same three or four issues cycle back through your company like clockwork — the same offer letter typo, the same missed I-9 deadline, the same manager who "forgot" to document a conversation before a termination — and why fixing it isn't about finding a smarter checklist. It's about understanding what your HR person is actually capable of doing with the hours they have, and why compliance is always the first thing to get sacrificed when capacity runs out.

By the end of this episode, you'll know exactly why compliance drift happens, how to spot it before it becomes a claim or a lawsuit, and what it actually takes to build a system that holds — even when your HR person is buried.
