🎙️ EP44｜Jesus Said “Fish for People”—So Who Are the Fish, the Sea, and the Fishermen? Jesus told His disciples: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Clearly, Jesus wasn’t simply teaching them how to catch fish. The “fish” pointed to— people. But if the fish represent people, what does the sea represent? And who are the fishermen? In Ezekiel, water flows from the Temple, bringing life wherever it goes. Then something fascinating happens: fish appear. Fishermen appear. And suddenly, the imagery begins to connect: Spring → Water → River → Sea → Fish → Fishermen → Net The spring is the source. The water carries life and truth. The river carries that water outward. The sea contains the fish. And the fishermen cast their nets. But here’s the part we often overlook: Not every fish caught in the net is kept. Jesus described the Kingdom of Heaven as a net cast into the sea, gathering fish of every kind. Then comes a separation— the good are kept, and the bad are thrown away. So perhaps “fishers of men” is about more than simply gathering people. The deeper question is: When the final separation comes, what kind of “fish” will you be? And the story doesn’t end with the water or the fish. Life received is meant to grow, bear fruit, and eventually become a source of life for others.
