🎙️ EP43｜Why Did Jesus Say, “I Will Make You Fishers of Men”? Jesus told His disciples: “I will make you fishers of men.” Clearly, He wasn’t really talking about fish. He was talking about— people. But why use fish as the metaphor? To understand the fish, we may first need to understand the water. Throughout Scripture, water flows from a source, becomes a river, and brings life wherever it goes. Jesus said: “Rivers of living water will flow from within them.” If water represents God’s Word and truth, then the spring represents its source. Those who receive that living water do not simply keep it for themselves. It flows outward. Ezekiel describes water flowing from the Temple— and wherever the river goes, life appears. Then something interesting happens: fish appear. And so do fishermen. The imagery begins to connect: Spring → Living Water → River → Sea → Fish → Fishermen If the fish represent people, and the fishermen are those sent to reach them, then “fishers of men” becomes part of a much larger biblical picture. Living water is not meant only to satisfy your own thirst. It flows outward so that other lives can be restored. But Scripture also speaks of a final separation: good fish and bad fish. So perhaps the ultimate question isn’t: “Am I one of the fish?” It is— “When the fish are separated, what kind will I be?” In this episode, we trace the imagery from the Fountain of Life to rivers, fish, fishermen, and spiritual harvest.
