Machines do not move with precision because of luck or constant adjustment. They move with precision because their parts are shaped and connected in ways that leave almost no choice. A linkage with fixed-length bars can only swing through one set of positions. A cam with a specific profile pushes a follower only where the shape allows. Gear teeth mesh only when their curves match. The geometry locks the motion path in place so the same input always produces the same output, cycle after cycle.
