"The Snail Girl" (田螺姑娘, tián luó gū niang) comes from Sou Shen Hou Ji, a Chinese book written about 1,600 years ago. People say the poet Tao Yuanming put it together. In the old book, the fairy leaves the snail shell behind and goes back to the sky. Some later versions say the two get married, but we follow the old book.
Xie Duan has no mom or dad. His kind neighbors raised him. One day, in the rice field, he steps on something hard. It is a snail as big as a water jug, with shiny, beautiful stripes! It is too special to eat, so he keeps it in his water jar. From that day on, every evening when he comes home, a hot dinner is waiting on the table. But nobody else lives in his house! Who is making his dinner?
A warm voice and a gentle pace, bringing classic Chinese myths and legends to little ones ages 4-10 — perfect for bedtime, travel, and family time. Chinese learners big and small are very welcome to tune in too!
