In this History episode we focus on the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre — the 20-hour hostage crisis in which Black September terrorists killed 11 Israeli athletes, a West German rescue attempt killed all nine remaining hostages at the airport, and Israel responded with a covert assassination campaign that lasted seven years and in one case killed the wrong man entirely.
The official motto of the Munich Games was The Cheerful Games. Eleven people died. The rescue killed everyone it was trying to save.
