Professional Black women in America have fought our way into rooms, careers, opportunities, and levels of economic independence that generations before us worked to make possible.

But what happens once we get here?

In this episode, I unpack the crossroads I see facing professional Black women through the very different choices represented by Symone Sanders-Townsend and Nikole Hannah-Jones.

Do we choose access and the security that comes with it? Do we choose the collective, even when that choice may cost us or the people we love? Or do we try to build something of our own—and take on the additional labor that requires?

I also explore the particular burden placed on Black women to succeed individually while continuing to care for our families, open doors for those behind us, and contribute to the collective—often without the village previous generations relied upon.

Maybe we’ve spent so much time fighting for access that we haven’t spent enough time asking what we want to do once we have it.

So where do we go from here?
