9 Critical Raw Materials Act – politics meets geology (short English version)

Dela

We discuss why critical raw materials have become a strategic EU issue and what the Critical Raw Materials Act is trying to solve. Together with Erika Ingvald we cover import dependence, energy transition and the growing global competition for key materials. The episode explains why even common metals like copper are now considered strategic and why new materials require new exploration knowledge. We also talk about permitting, financing and public understanding as major bottlenecks. The core message: Europe is trying to secure supply chains, but success still depends on real projects on the ground.

Conclusions

  • Critical raw materials are about security of supply, not only mining.
  • New materials force both industry and authorities to learn from scratch.
  • Policy can enable projects, but geology ultimately decides.
