Two Wings of One Bird: Adolf von Harnack and the Kernel of Faith

Dela

Harmonia begins in a medieval church in Maastricht that is now a bookstore, then travels to Berlin to remember Adolf von Harnack, the brilliant theologian whose 1900 lectures on the essence of Christianity offered a generation of doubters a faith they could hold with honest minds. She traces his courage in defending conscience against creeds, his famous image of the husk and the kernel, and the cost of peeling away mystery until faith mirrored its own culture, a cost revealed in the summer of 1914. Through Harnack's story and his public debate with Karl Barth, Harmonia reflects on reason and transcendence as two wings of one bird, gently lamenting the lost wonder in many modern churches while affirming that a world ready for both wings at full strength is already taking flight.
