The Eating Woods Deep Dive series is BACK and if you're counting down the days until Vasmora, this series is the refresher you need.
Keri Lake packed Eldritch with lore, breadcrumbs, multiple timelines, emotions and subtle connections to Anathema that are very easy to miss on a first read. We're slowing WAY down and pulling it all apart so you don't have to! 👀
In Eldritch Deep Dive: Section 1, Part 1 we're covering the Prologue through Chapter 20, focusing on the pieces of the story that begin to reshape everything we thought we knew about the Eating Woods. And yes… Zevander's trauma starts here too.
Joining me this season is Halle, who you may remember from our Daggermouth episode. We're both completely obsessed with this series, so naturally, we're going to overanalyze every suspicious detail we can find.

Episode 1 - We're digging into:
- Maevyth's origins and the mysterious circumstances surrounding her birth
- The prophecy, the Eating Woods, and the strange forces moving within the story
- Zevander's past, trauma, and origins: and why understanding them may be critical to where his storyline goes
- Zevander's emberforge ritual and what his connection to the gods could mean
- The terrifying creatures emerging from the Eating Woods and who they may be connected to
- The gods, their relationships, and the mythology that suddenly feel MUCH more important
- Anathema connections and breadcrumbs: all hidden throughout this opening section
- Our theories about what Keri Lake might be setting up for the rest of the trilogy
One of the things we love most about Eldritch is how much it rewards those who pay attention. Details that seemed small in Anathema suddenly start looking a whole lot more intentional and Keri Lake has explicitly encouraged readers to look for those connections.
So if you're rereading Eldritch, preparing for Vasmora, or just need someone to obsess over the lore with you… you're in the right place.
**SPOILER WARNING:** This episode contains full spoilers for Anathema and spoilers through Chapter 20 of Eldritch. We do NOT discuss anything beyond the section covered in this episode.
📖 **Eldritch Deep Dive Series**This book is being broken into four major sections (each ~200 pages each), with each section receiving 1-2 deep-dive episodes. We'll follow the timelines and POVs while connecting the details back to the larger story of the Eating Woods, giving you a complete chronological recap along with lore, connections and theories woven in.
If you're new to the series, start with the Anathema Deep Dive and Eating Woods Guide before jumping into Eldritch.
And if you're already reading along: tell us what you caught that we missed! What detail from Anathema suddenly looks VERY different after reading this section of Eldritch?
