What happens when life changes so dramatically that the future you imagined is no longer possible?
In this episode of The Kelly Healing Project, I sit down with Jay Setchell, author of The Strength Within You: It’s Always Too Soon to Quit, for a powerful conversation about resilience, faith, purpose, identity, and finding the strength to keep moving forward through extraordinary adversity.
Jay is a U.S. Marine, entrepreneur, husband, and father who has survived multiple near-death experiences, more than six dozen surgeries, a spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, chronic pain, and other life-changing challenges.
But this conversation isn't simply about what Jay has survived.
We talk about what happens internally when life suddenly looks nothing like you expected, whether resilience is something we're born with or something life teaches us, and how Jay's experiences changed his understanding of success and purpose.
We also explore faith, personal responsibility, mindset, learning when to persevere and when to change direction, asking for help, living with physical limitations, and the difference between focusing on what we've lost and recognizing what we still have.
Jay also shares stories about the people he's encountered along the way, the moments that helped him recognize a deeper purpose behind sharing his experiences, and why he believes each of us has more strength within us than we may realize.
One of my favorite reminders from our conversation:
“Count what you have left, not what you have lost.”
If you're going through a season where life hasn't turned out the way you expected—or you simply need a reminder that your story isn't over—this conversation is for you.
