In this episode of Talking O&G: a RANZCOG Podcast, host Dr Sarah Corbett speaks with O&G registrar Dr Moerangi Tamati and midwife Chloe Taylor about Māori birthing practices and how clinicians can provide culturally sensitive, wāhine-led care.
They explore the role that pregnancy and birth play in the Māori cultural worldview, and how colonisation has impacted maternity care for Māori women. Dr Tamati and Ms Taylor outline some of the traditional tikanga (Māori birthing customs) and how these may be incorporated into maternity care today. They provide actionable advice and resources to support clinicians to create a safe, culturally responsive space when delivering maternity care for Māori women.
