"Holly and Ivy" is a Christmas poem by Eugene Field in which two plants speak to each other across the threshold of a winter home. Holly, warm inside by the yule-log's glow, and Ivy, shivering in the bleak night wind, exchange visions: one of firelight, angels, and sleeping children; the other of the Star of Bethlehem and the birth of the Shepherd King. Together, their voices weave a tender picture of Christmas night, both indoors and out.
