In this episode I sit down with leadership coach and entrepreneur Ben Ward for a deeply personal conversation about faith, family, pride, failure, and the experiences that have shaped his relationship with God.
Ben shares what it was like growing up between two very different worlds after his parents divorced, the influence of his mother's faith, and the moment his older brother's testimony planted a seed that would eventually help Ben find his own. He also shares the powerful lesson his father taught him after returning to the Church: “I thought it was me.”
Years later, Ben would learn a similar lesson for himself.
After experiencing extraordinary business success, Ben watched everything unravel. His company collapsed, his financial security disappeared, and he found himself in what he calls the “Black Death” one of the darkest periods of his life.
It was there, angry with God and questioning a scripture he had always loved, that Ben came to understand the words “My burden is light” in an entirely new way.
Maybe our burdens aren't always made lighter by being taken away.
Maybe sometimes they become light—wisdom, compassion, humility, experience, and a deeper understanding of who God is and who we are becoming.
This is a conversation about what happens when everything you thought defined you is stripped away, and how God can use even our darkest experiences to illuminate the way forward.
