In July 2023, 28-year-old professional dancer O'Shae Sibley was voguing to Beyoncé's "Renaissance" with his friends at a Brooklyn gas station when a 17-year-old approached them, hurled anti-Black and homophobic slurs, and stabbed O'Shae in the chest. He was dead before the night was over. This past week, three years later, a Brooklyn judge sentenced Dmitriy Popov to 20 years in prison for what a jury found was a hate crime. Vanessa walks you through O'Shae's life, the trial that split down the middle, and the sentence that finally landed.
