Trump Commemorates U.S. Navy’s 251st Anniversary, Announces Shipbuilding Investments
President Donald Trump commemorated the U.S. Navy’s 251st anniversary on October 13, honoring sailors past and present for their service, sacrifice, and role in protecting America’s maritime security.
Established in 1775 during the Revolutionary War, the Navy has grown into a leading global naval force, safeguarding U.S. interests, deterring aggression, and protecting international shipping routes.
Trump highlighted his administration’s efforts to strengthen the Navy and revitalize American shipbuilding, citing more than $150 billion in secured investments. He also pointed to plans for a fifth naval shipyard—the first in more than 80 years—and the start of construction on a major new shipyard to build next-generation submarines.
The statement emphasized the administration’s commitment to expanding naval capabilities, creating American jobs, and ensuring the Navy remains prepared to meet future national security challenges. Trump and the First Lady concluded by honoring the generations of sailors who have defended the nation at sea.
