Matthew Morris introduces a 10-part “Be a Man” series on The Bowyer Podcast that shifts focus from traditional bowhunting to conversations about masculinity, faith, family, and character, beginning with “Adventure.” He and guest Monty Browning (77½ year-old), a longtime arborist, traditional bowhunter, author, and mentor, discuss warm friendships , service, and fellowship. - alongside grit, austerity, and adventure.
Monty recounts dangerous, formative adventures: hunting muskox in extreme Arctic cold with a homemade Osage bow, mountain hunting in Turkey, Cape buffalo in Mozambique amid landmines and armed ex-combatants, and a close-quarters Alaska brown bear kill with a longbow. Monty explains how poverty, early dreams, a low-cost elk hunt, saving and borrowing money, and hard work enabled decades of travel - while being a postal worker and dedicated husband. They argue men need risk, discomfort, and facing fears to grow, return recalibrated to family life, and practice honesty, humility, integrity, service, and emotional openness.
