“Food noise” has become one of the biggest phrases in the GLP-1 conversation. But are we starting to label normal hunger as a problem that needs to be suppressed?

Not every thought about food is dysfunctional.

Sometimes you’re thinking about food because you’re eating 1,200 calories, skipping meals, strength training, dieting aggressively, or simply not giving your body enough energy.

In this episode, we’re breaking down the difference between true food preoccupation and a completely appropriate biological response to under-fueling, and why that distinction becomes especially important for women using GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide.

GLP-1 medications can be incredibly valuable for the right person. They can reduce compulsive food thoughts, improve appetite regulation, support weight loss, and create space to work on the behaviors that previously felt much harder.

But appetite suppression can also make significant under-eating feel effortless.

We cover:

• What “food noise” actually means and why we’re using one term to describe very different experiences
• How dieting and inadequate calorie intake can increase food preoccupation and cravings
• Why not feeling hungry doesn’t necessarily mean you’re adequately fueled
• The difference between appetite suppression and metabolic improvement
• Why protein intake and strength training matter so much during GLP-1 weight loss
• The risk of losing muscle along with body fat, especially during perimenopause and menopause
• GLP-1s, constipation, slowed digestion, bloating, fiber, hydration, and GI motility
• Warning signs that medication use may be reinforcing restrictive or disordered eating behaviors
• Why the highest tolerable GLP-1 dose isn’t automatically the best dose
• What responsible GLP-1 support should include beyond simply eating less
• Why hunger can return during weight loss, dose reduction, or discontinuation
• What to do when hunger cues have been suppressed for a long time
• How to transition out of a calorie deficit and back toward maintenance
• Why women need nutrition, strength training, meal structure, and behavioral skills that exist independently of appetite suppression

We also talk about one of the biggest opportunities GLP-1s can offer: using the period of reduced cravings and improved appetite control to actually build the skills you’ll need long term.

Because the goal isn’t to make food irrelevant.

The goal is to create a stable relationship with food while preserving muscle, supporting metabolic health, nourishing your body, and building results you can actually maintain.

A medication can silence hunger. It cannot eliminate your need for protein, nutrients, muscle, or recovery.

And if hunger returning makes you feel like your GLP-1 has failed, you probably weren’t given the complete strategy.
