What if the parts of yourself you keep trying to fix aren’t broken at all, but simply asking to be understood?

In this episode of Lessons To My Younger Self, I’m joined by shadow work teacher Chris Orozco for a deep conversation about shadow integration, the father wound, reparenting and what it really means to refather yourself.

Chris shares his powerful personal journey, from losing his father at just six years old and growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness, to experiencing homelessness, rage and suicidal ideation. His own search for healing eventually led him to shadow work, which he has now spent 14 years studying and teaching.

Together, we explore what happens when we stop seeing our triggers, behaviours and patterns as problems to fix and instead begin to understand the parts of ourselves underneath them.

We go particularly deep into the father wound and the process of refathering ourselves. What might we have needed from the masculine growing up? Protection, guidance, structure, provision, boundaries and healthy consequences. And how can we begin to cultivate those qualities within ourselves when they were missing, inconsistent or difficult to receive?

This conversation also explores shame, rebellion, masculine and feminine energy, relationship triggers, nervous system pacing and why meaningful healing requires us to create a vision for who we are becoming, rather than endlessly focusing on what is wrong with us.

✨ In this episode, we explore:

• What shadow work actually is and how shadow integration goes deeper
• The difference between identifying a shadow and understanding the part beneath it
• The father wound and how it can shape our relationships and sense of self
• What refathering yourself really means
• The role of protection, guidance, structure and boundaries
• Reparenting and inner child healing
• Shame, rebellion and the parts of ourselves we reject
• Masculine and feminine energy and polarity
• Understanding relationship triggers
• Nervous system pacing and why healing cannot be rushed
• Creating a vision for the person you want to become

💭 A question to reflect on:

What part of yourself have you been trying to fix, control or reject that might actually be asking to be understood?
