If work constantly keeps coming back to you, don't only ask: “How am I going to get all of this done?”
Ask: “Why does this need me?”
The Why Me? Audit is a simple Leadership Rep designed to help you diagnose why work, questions, decisions, and problems continue flowing through you.
Look at six possibilities:
Authority — Am I actually the person who must decide this?
Capability — Does someone need additional skill or development?
Clarity — Does the team know what to do?
Trust — Am I having difficulty releasing ownership?
System — Is the process designed to route everything through me?
Habit — Are we doing this simply because we've always done it this way?
Then ask the most important question:
Does this need me next time?
You don't need to redesign your entire job tomorrow.
Pick one recurring piece of work. Diagnose why it requires you. Then determine what would need to change for your team to handle it differently next time.
That's the rep.
