Copper Giant Plans to Scale Mocoa Without a Massive Upfront Build | Ian Harris

Ian Harris, President & CEO of Copper Giant, joins Kitco Mining’s Paul Harris at the 2026 Precious Metals Summit in Beaver Creek to discuss how the billion-tonne Mocoa copper-molybdenum project in Colombia is moving from resource growth toward development.

Copper Giant is targeting more than 23,000 meters of drilling in 2026 as it works to upgrade Mocoa’s resource ahead of a pre-feasibility study. Before that, the company expects to deliver its first PEA in Q4 2026, testing multiple development scenarios including a phased approach intended to reduce upfront capital requirements while allowing the project to expand over time.

Mocoa hosts a 1.12-billion-tonne inferred resource containing approximately 12.7 billion pounds of copper equivalent. Harris also discusses Colombia’s changing political environment and why he believes a new window has opened for large strategic-metal projects. In August 2026, Copper Giant announced a 10-year offtake agreement with Trafigura covering 20% of future copper and molybdenum concentrate production, adding another strategic element as Mocoa advances.
