If the name Dallas Seger is familiar to you, it might be through his role as owner/luthier of custom-guitar specialists Seger Guitars, based in Bangor Maine.
You might also know Dallas from his rock-and-metal-straddling project Manic Abraxas (and you can check out my interview with Dallas and Justin Hamm discussing that project on episode 35 of this podcast).
Azure, the debut album under Dallas’ new moniker David Caress sounds frankly nothing like Manic Abraxas. Certainly, there are guitars, but this is not some virtuosic, Yngwie Malmsteen noodle-fest. Azure is rather a cold, but beautiful, post-punk-inspired release with sonic terrain evoking bands like Depeche Mode, Joy Division and The Cure—on top of which Dallas (or David, if you prefer!) weaves his beguiling guitar melodies.
Mostly performed and recorded by Dallas himself, Azure was mixed and mastered by Steve Austin (of Today Is The Day) in his Austin Enterprise studio and I was delighted to get the chance to hear all about the creation of the album, which will be released digitally on the 9th of October.
