The Lady Greyhounds are undefeated. They’re also very much not a team yet.

In Season 4, Episode 4, Greyhounds’ Day Off, Ted discovers that winning can hide a culture problem as attackers, defenders and midfielders retreat into their own cliques. Which means it’s time for some intentional team building. Naturally, this being Ted Lasso, it ends with a pub fight and a trip to jail.

We dig into why teams have to form, storm, norm and perform, why good team building is about interaction rather than activities, and why the way the Greyhounds behave off the pitch tells us a lot about who they are on it.

We also get one of our favorite leadership ideas of the season when Keeley explains that Rebecca’s constant no actually makes her ideas better. We connect that to David Epstein’s work on constraints and innovation, the importance of having your own Diamond Dogs, and why sometimes the person pushing back on your idea is exactly the person you need.

Plus:

  • How performance can hide culture problems
  • Why your strengths can become your shadow behaviors
  • What attackers, defenders and midfielders teach us about career signals
  • Why excitement is data
  • Ted balancing connection with accountability
  • Trent Crimm and Dr. Sharon!
  • Roy’s extremely efficient approach to ten dates
  • Our Zelda, Roy, Beard and Jane predictions
  • And whether Trent’s podcast might give us a very clever way to see some familiar Richmond faces again

Whistle, whistle. Game’s over, but the leadership lessons keep on playing.
