Tyler Ramsey takes on a question that has stirred up the recovery world: What happens when someone you've looked to as an example of sobriety decides to start drinking again?
After years of publicly discussing sobriety, Brad Pitt is now drinking again—and Tyler thinks people in recovery are making a mistake if they allow someone else's decision to influence their own.
The conversation expands into Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Bradley Cooper, celebrity role models, relapse, personal responsibility and why somebody else's recovery—or lack of it—should never become an excuse to abandon what's working in your own life. Tyler's central message: if getting sober repaired the damage in your life, don't throw that away because somebody famous made a different choice. Robert Downey Jr. and Bradley Cooper come up as contrasting examples of people whose lives and careers Tyler believes continued to grow alongside sobriety.
But this is a Tyler solo episode, so naturally that's only the beginning.
Tyler gets into the universe and the speed of light, why some of us seem to have a built-in self-destruct button, sober Burning Man, his new stand-up alter ego “Turbo,” relationships you know you shouldn't be in, the explosion of alcohol-free culture, testosterone and peptides, and the unfortunate moment he discovered—too late—that the video game he bought his 10-year-old contained some very adult material.
Plus, Tyler looks back at some of his most memorable Punk Rock Sober guests, including Marcus Capone, and talks about why he'd like to sit down with Hunter Biden for a future episode.
Punk Rock Sober is about raw-dogging reality—recovery, addiction, life, culture, comedy and everything that happens when you stop trying to numb the experience.
