Kat spent fifteen years certain she knew exactly who she was.
She was a horse trainer, good at it, built for it, in it for life. Then a health crisis in her mid-30s took the plan and flipped it on it's head.
What came after wasn't a comeback story.
It was a slow, deliberate act of becoming someone new: a licensed clinical social worker, a guide for women in transition, and someone who's still figuring out what her next chapter holds.
This is a conversation about what it actually takes to let go of an identity you were sure was permanent, and why the hardest part isn't surviving the thing that breaks you open. It's deciding who you get to be on the other end of it, before you have any proof it'll work.
A few things we get into:
- Why "the decision is the miracle," and how one choice becomes the pivot everything else organizes around
- Why "survivor" is a chapter, not a title, and what it costs to keep making your past mean something about your future
- The gravestone question she asks her clients (it's not as morbid as it sounds, and it'll stay with you)
If you're somewhere in the middle of outgrowing a version of yourself right now, this one's going to feel less like advice and more like company.
