The Word Became Flesh. Grace and Truth in Jesus. Come and See.
"The Word became flesh and dwelt among us." — John 1:14
John opens his Gospel by taking us all the way back before creation. Jesus is introduced as the eternal Word who was with God and was God. Everything was created through Him, and in Him is life and light. Then John gives us the incredible truth at the heart of the gospel: the Word became flesh and lived among us. The eternal Son of God stepped into human history so we could know the Father. Jesus did not merely bring grace and truth. John says grace and truth came through Him.
The chapter then moves from theology to invitation. John the Baptist points to Jesus as "the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world," and the first disciples begin following Him. Again and again, the response is simple: come and see. John 1 reminds us that Christianity begins with a Person. Jesus is the Creator, the Lamb, the Messiah, and the Son of God. The invitation is still the same today: come to Him, see who He is, and let your life be changed by the One who brings light into the darkness.
