"We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit." — 2 Corinthians 3:18

Second Corinthians 3 begins with Paul describing believers as something remarkable: letters of Christ. The Corinthians themselves were evidence that God had been at work through Paul's ministry. Their changed lives were a letter written not with ink, but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts. There is an important reminder here for us. People may never read a sermon or open a theology book, but they will watch the lives of those who claim to follow Jesus. A transformed life remains one of the clearest testimonies to the transforming power of the gospel.

Paul then contrasts the old covenant given through Moses with the new covenant established through Christ. The law was glorious because it revealed the holiness and righteousness of God, but it could expose sin without giving sinful hearts the power to overcome it. The new covenant brings something greater. Through Christ, the Holy Spirit gives life and writes God's truth upon our hearts. Paul is not diminishing the Old Testament or suggesting that God's law was bad. He is showing us that what the law pointed toward has now been fulfilled in Jesus. The glory of the new covenant surpasses the old because through Christ we are given forgiveness, freedom, and the indwelling presence of the Spirit.

The chapter closes with the picture of Moses' veil. Paul explains that apart from Christ, there is a spiritual veil that keeps people from fully seeing God's glory. "But whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is removed." And once that veil is gone, something incredible begins to happen. As we behold the glory of Christ, the Holy Spirit gradually transforms us into His image. That is the heart of Christian growth. We do not simply try harder to become better people. We keep turning our eyes toward Jesus, allowing His Spirit to change us from the inside out. Second Corinthians 3 reminds us that the Christian life is a life of transformation. The more clearly we see Christ, the more our lives should begin to look like Him.
