What happens when a play written more than a century ago still has something important to say today?
Director Britt Berke joins Robert Bannon on The Roundtable to talk about PHYL, the rarely seen comedy by pioneering playwright and women's rights advocate Cecily Hamilton, now making its New York premiere with Mint Theater Company.
Britt takes us inside this fascinating production, the story of a spirited young governess determined to break free from society's expectations, and the remarkable history of a play that was once banned from its planned Oxford premiere.
It's a conversation about theater, rediscovery, strong women, and why stories from the past can still speak so powerfully to audiences today.
PHYL runs through November 7, 2026, at Theatre Row in New York City, with its official opening October 22.
