In this episode of The Feed Science Podcast Show, Dr. Daniel Brugger from the University of Helsinki explains why trace mineral nutrition requires more than simply meeting a formulation target. He explores the gaps between formulated, analyzed, and biologically effective supply; the risks created by mixing and delivery variation; and why oversized safety margins can increase cost, environmental loading, and mineral imbalances without solving the underlying problem. Listen now on all major platforms!

“Formulation tells us what we intend to provide. Analysis tells us what is chemically present, and biological effectiveness tells us what the animal can actually use.”

Meet the guest: Dr. Daniel Brugger is an Associate Professor of Companion and Monogastric Production Animal Nutrition at the University of Helsinki and leads the Helsinki Monogastric Nutrition Lab. His work focuses on sustainable nutrition for pets and non-ruminant livestock, including micronutrients, antinutritional factors, feed preservation, animal health, welfare, and environmental impact. He earned a doctorate in livestock biology with a focus on animal nutrition from the Technical University of Munich. Listen to The Feed Science Podcast Show with Dr. Daniel Brugger on all major platforms to learn more about trace mineral nutrition.
