Sometimes a date can take a turn for the worse, and it’s not entirely clear why.

In the early stages, it doesn’t matter too much. If you’re not that interested and not 100% invested, just move on - life really is too short.

But matchmaker Gina Hendrix says often, when we look back on why things took a turn, we can learn a lot - and more times than not it comes down to one thing: we weren’t curious enough.

Not detective-style curiosity, trying to figure out if he's lying or a match on paper, but real, innocent interest in another human being.

Not only does that curiosity give us more opportunity to spot a mis-match early on, it’s also a sexy, magnetic quality in a person.

The theme of genuine curiosity comes up throughout this episode of Secrets They’ll Only Tell a Matchmaker.

One caller asks why men feel intimidated by her lifestyle - have they been properly pre-qualified? Another asks how to pick profile prompts that spark real depth instead of surface-level small talk. And we hear from one woman who wants to know why some men go flakey after a couple of conversations.

The conversation turns to whether where you live makes dating more difficult, why dating and manners in general seem to have declined, and how to know when a divorced or widowed man is really ready to start dating again.

The big takeaway from this episode of Secrets They'll Only Tell a Matchmaker with Gina Hendrix: bring your energy and your curiosity everywhere you go, because that, more than anything, is what people remember.
