His work sits at the interface between mātauranga Māori and Western science, helping reconnect people with maramataka - the Māori lunar calendar - and the natural environment.
Dr Rangi is a member of the Matariki Advisory Committee and played a significant role in bringing the Matariki public holiday to fruition.
