In a morally bankrupt Israel, a priest orders the shepherd-prophet Amos to take his message of doom back to Judah. “Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there,” he tells him. The man sees Amos' words as counter-cultural and offensive. Telling Israel's spiritual leaders that they are wrong is treasonous, he says, as if patriotism trumps actually following God. It's a powerful message, and proof that truth has been battling ideology for millennia.
