The land may have ben scourged by a locust swarm but punishment will not last, the prophet Joel says. God will drive the hordes or insects into the Dead Sea and wine will flow from Israel's mountains. The shepherd Amos then takes the prophet's baton and immediately launches into a withering diatribe against Israel's neighbours. Woe abounds.
