God asked him to give up the one thing he had waited his entire life to receive. No explanation. No second option. Just — go.
Most people read this account and brace for the loss. They assume the story is about how much it costs to obey. It is not.
Because before he ever climbed that mountain — before the hardest walk of his life, before the question that had no easy answer — something was already waiting at the top. It had been placed there before he took a single step. He just could not see it yet.
