You Expected It Too Soon

The thing YOU gave up on may have been closer than YOU ever knew.

YOU planted it. YOU believed for it. YOU watched for it — every single day — and when nothing on the surface looked like it was changing, YOU came to a quiet conclusion that YOU never said out loud: maybe it was not going to happen. Maybe it was not meant for YOU. Maybe YOU had done something wrong.

But what if the only thing YOU got wrong was the timing?

Mark 4:26-32 says something about how the most important things in YOUR life actually grow that most people have never had explained to them. And once YOU understand it, YOU will look back at every season YOU thought was barren and realize something was happening the entire time that YOU simply could not see.

Here is what most people miss — growth does not begin where YOU can see it. It begins underground, in the dark, in a place completely hidden from the person who planted the seed. And while nothing is visible on the surface, the most important part of the process is already fully in motion.

What looked like nothing was never nothing.

There is a specific detail in this passage about what the person who planted the seed was doing while the growth was happening — and it is the opposite of what most people do when they are waiting on God. Most people watch, worry, and dig it up to check on it. What this passage describes is something else entirely. And that one difference is the reason some people harvest what they planted and some people abandon it days before it would have broken the surface.

YOU did not fail. YOU expected it too soon.

There is also something in these verses about how the smallest, most insignificant-looking beginning becomes the largest result of all — a contrast so extreme that most people never connect it to the very thing they gave up on.
