The Dudes open on Trump’s MAGA Inc. finally unloading the war chest. The super PAC and its affiliates have already spent over $200 million this cycle, with another wave reserved in the final weeks. Focus is on Senate holds in Ohio, Alaska, Iowa, Michigan, and Texas, plus selective House races. No Going Back PAC is doing the heavy lifting. That turns into the theory that some of the same money, or the same interests, are quietly underwriting the rise of DSA-aligned candidates so the general election is a choice between MAGA and open socialists.
Later, the fellas dissect Cornel West’s take on Barack Obama campaigning for Michigan Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed. West said Obama opposes El-Sayed’s lines on Gaza, Wall Street, and single-payer because Obama is part of the central, moderate, neoliberal wing. El-Sayed spent years calling Obama’s presidency a failure — “the list of his failures goes on” — and is now walking it back on Meet the Press as “I was younger and angry” ahead of an October 24 Detroit rally. From there they break down the drift: progressive Democrats who used to talk about better management of the system now treat Medicare for All, open borders, and defunding as the floor, not the ceiling.
The guys close on Mark Ruffalo and Robert De Niro at Indivisible’s “Hands Off Our Vote” event in New York on October 4. Ruffalo threatened to “hulk out” and called the midterms the election that has to make Trump a lame duck. De Niro called Trump a “fucking piece of shit” and a “coward” and told the crowd to keep their hands off the vote. Classic TDS volume, pre-midterm edition. From there it’s the ultimate cure for road rage — the one that actually works when the guy in the next lane is filming you — and the old elite theory that the only way to keep Social Security from collapsing is to quietly thin out the people collecting it. The numbers, the incentives, and who keeps floating the idea.
