📚 A.A. Dhand on The Chemist & The Kingpin
In this episode of Michelle Ford Interviews, Michelle chats to Sunday Times bestselling crime writer A.A. Dhand about his gripping Idris Khan series, The Chemist and its explosive sequel, The Kingpin.
The Chemist introduces Idris Khan, a respected pharmacist in Leeds who dispenses methadone and knows far more about his patients - and the secrets they carry - than anyone might imagine. When his childhood sweetheart fails to turn up for her daily dose, Idris goes looking for her and finds himself caught in the middle of a dangerous turf war between Yorkshire drug cartels.
In The Kingpin, Idris is changed by what has happened to him. When his estranged brother Zidane arrives fresh out of prison with an audacious plan to take control of the drug trade across Leeds and Bradford, Idris faces an even bigger choice: walk away or become the very thing he's always feared - the Kingpin.
Michelle and Amit talk about crime, drugs, morality, family, the darker side of Yorkshire and the real-life experiences that helped inspire the novels. Having worked as a pharmacist himself, Dhand drew on what he witnessed during years working at the sharp end of community pharmacy to create the world of Idris.
If you love crime fiction, psychological thrillers, gritty British crime, Yorkshire noir and fast-paced, twisty storytelling, this is one to add to your listening list.
