When COP26 was originally cancelled in 2020, young people took action. 330 youth delegates, representing over 140 countries, gathered online to participate in Mock COP during the time when COP26 would have been running.
The conference was planned and led by young people, showing the ambition and dreams of young people worldwide fighting for a fair, equal and green world. The conference culminated with a global declaration to world leaders with 18 ambitious, yet realistic policies covering 6 important themes; climate education, climate justice, climate-resilient livelihoods, physical and mental health, nationally determined contributions and biodiversity.
In this episode, we interview Shreya KC, a climate activist from Nepal and Mock COP Campaigner. Shreya talks to us about her experiences in climate activism, her personal journey towards climate action, and her work as a Mock COP campaigner. She shares the progress that has been made in implementing the Mock COP treaty, and more broadly, how young people can effectively mobilise to fight climate inaction.
