Robert, a rational teenager from the South Pacific who did not believe in spirituality, attempted suicide by taking sedatives under a tree at the grounds of the Little Sisters of the Poor. He then experienced what he described as a powerful Near-death experience, encountering a radiant being of light and entering a vast place where beings communicated without words and profound knowledge about existence was instantly understood. The being eventually told him he would return, and Robert suddenly regained consciousness in an ambulance where he was being resuscitated. Later, nuns confirmed he had been found with no pulse and not breathing. The experience deeply changed his understanding of life, though he shared it with very few people for nearly thirty years.
