In this episode of 1Dime Radio, I am joined by Haz Al-Din, Chairman of the American Communist Party and host of Infrared, a long-requested and highly controversial guest. We get into why Infrared broke with the American left, MAGA Communism and patriotic socialism, China and the limits of liberal democracy, what socialism with American characteristics could actually mean, the failures of Soviet socialism, markets vs. planning, and whether AI and cybernetics are pushing us toward a radically different economic system.
In the Patreon-exclusive Backroom, I press Haz harder on whether he is really a Marxist or closer to what I call a national-conservative socialist. We also get more personal about our shared Lebanese heritage and experiences growing up in Lebanese immigrant families, along with Islam, Christianity, socialism, culture, and the strange overlap between our backgrounds despite our political disagreements.
