Travis and Annie crash-land on Planet of the Apes (1968), where the atmosphere is questionable, the existential questions arrive in bulk, and Charlton Heston’s butt somehow becomes part of the discourse. They wrestle with a film that keeps asking enormous questions without always waiting around for answers, admire its audacity, and inevitably arrive at that twist. It’s ambitious, slightly unhinged, and very confident about things it may or may not fully understand.
